April Fool's Day
Greetings!
My Name is Jeff, and I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, on April 1, 2001.
I have decided I am going to try to occupy myself with learning everything I can about my condition, and how to keep myself from developing any of the not-so-pleasant complications that I have seen and heard about, that will arise if I don't treat my condition accordingly.
The purpose of this website is for documenting what I have learned, and sharing my experiences about living as a type 1 diabetic.
I am using Lantus to control my baseline BG level, and using fast-acting insulin Humalog to counter-act my meals.
There are two basic types of diabetes, type 1, and type 2.
Type 1 means that your pancreas no longer produces insulin, and you will be giving yourself insulin to regulate your blood glucose level, and watching your diet to maintain a safe glucose level for the rest of your life.
Type 2 means that you may be able to maintain a healthy level with diet alone, or with supplements, and medication. Type 2 is the most common. About 90% of diabetics are type 2. I will be focusing on type 1 here, because (lucky me) I am type 1.
